Definitions of Revision Types

Documents in the Environment, Safety, & Health Manual are marked near the top of the document as to whether they are new or revised documents. Revision types are defined below:

New Document: a document entirely new to the ES&H Manual. A new document requires review by the ES&H Working Group (or other reviewing party) and approval by the Laboratory’s Deputy Director of Operations.
Major Revision: a revision that incorporates changes to requirements or methods of implementation, or is an extensive rewrite of an existing ES&H Manual document. A major revision requires review by the ES&H Working Group (or other reviewing party) and approval of the Laboratory’s Deputy Director of Operations.
Technical Revision: a revision that adds minor changes to the technical content of a document or provides additional information without adding new requirements. A technical revision is approved by the sponsoring organization.

Editorial Revision: a revision used for minor editorial corrections (e.g., to update a Work Smart Standards (WSS) citation). An editorial revision is approved by the ES&H Manual Document Advocate and the Document Lead (or WSS Subject Matter Expert).

Changes in revised documents are noted by traditional change bars in the PDF version of each document. Changes are not noted in the HTML version of each document because of HTML coding limitations.
