The federal government has a backlog of renovation work in public buildings that exceeds available funding.  In order to provide a better interface with its customers, the American public, GSA has created the First Impressions Program.  This program renovates a number of lobbies on a competitive basis in GSA owned or leased buildings each year.  Public spaces in the selected facilities undergo redesign that often included new lighting, flooring, wall coverings, and graphics to provide a more attractive and user-friendly environment.
