Passes & Permits

Fees may be charged and permits required for some activities and locations. Business permittees, such as campground concessionaires and outfitter guides, may provide services to public land users.

 

 

Permits

Permits are required for certain individual and commercial activities that occur on the forest and grassland:

  • Advertising
  • Christmas tree
  • Collection
  • Concession campground
  • Events
  • Filming and photography
  • Fire
  • Firewood
  • Group use
  • Mushroom
  • Off-highway vehicle
  • Outfitter guiding
  • Post and pole
  • River
  • Road
  • Summer home
  • Wilderness


Some permitted activities may require a business plan. Special use permit appeal regulations.More information is available on the processes on the National Forest Service website.

Golden Passports

Golden passports can provide either free entrance or a discount for certain recreation fees. There are three types of passports available:

  • Golden Eagle—for the general public, $65
  • Golden Age—for 62 years and older, $10
  • Golden Access—for blind or permanently disabled individuals, FREE
