Updates on Fire
The Bluff Fire is the only active fire remaining from the Pilot Complex in which nine other lightning ignited fires burned 1/4 acre or less and naturally went out in early July. The Zion Fire Use Module and the Whiskeytown Fire Use Module is actively patrolling the fire and rehabilitation operations are underway.

Overview
A significant lightning event occurred over Lassen Volcanic National Park on Monday June 28, 2004 and three separate lightning fires were detected near Pilot Mountain. All of the fires are approximately 1/10 acre and are being monitored as fire use fires.

Last 24-hour Activity
Crews are monitoring fire activity and patrolling the fire area.

Strategy
Crews continue to patrol and monitor.

Vegetation Affected
Mixed conifer

Air / Smoke Issues
An increase in visible smoke had occurred when fire activity increased September 8-9. Fire activity has moderated and smoke output has diminished.

Benefits of the Burn
Careful management of the Bluff Fire will reduce fuels and improve forest health. This allows a much needed opportunity to reintroduce fire into a fire dependent ecosystem.
