What We Do

The Fire Management Program Center (FMPC) provides national leadership, direction, coordination, and support for NPS fire, aviation, and incident management. The primary purposes of the Center Programs are:

Achieving national mandates for safety of employees and the visiting public

Protecting natural and cultural resources

Achieving and maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, using state-of-the-art concepts, technologies, and practices

Providing support and coordination with other servicewide programs such as natural and cultural resources management and interpretation in order to accomplish the mission of each National Park system unit

Maximizing partnerships with federal, state, local, and tribal entities, in order to achieve the greatest benefits for park resources and for the public

Identifying and achieving measurable outcomes in conformance with the Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA)
