Spatial Data Management Apples

Spatial Data Management (SDM) is the set of business processes that surround the creation and/or maintenance of drawings and associated tabular data to accurately reflect each Region’s set of federally owned space. In short, SDM involves measuring a Tier 1 or 2a building, drawing it in CAD to accepted ANSI-BOMA standards, verifying the composition of tenant agencies and their corresponding location in the building, entering the data into the CAFM system (which is currently Facility Information System) and updating STAR accordingly. Once updated, focus shifts towards updating and maintaining the CAD drawings and assignment data in the CAFM and STAR databases.

As of October 1st, 2002, the responsibility for the management of the SDM program was transferred from the Office of Portfolio Management to the National Office of Realty Services. In support of this transition, the National Office of Realty Services, with the support of key PBS business lines and the Office of the Chief Information Officer, plans to incorporate the capture, use and maintenance of accurate spatial data and drawings into GSA’ core business processes—thus supporting national coherence and the move towards the “B” Case.
