Technical Abstract: Recently, a recombinant avian leukosis virus containing the envelope of subgroup B and the long terminal repeat of subgroup J avian leukosis virus (ALV) was isolated from commercial layer flocks diagnosed with myeloid leukosis. In the present study, we examined the susceptibility of various lines of commercial white leghorn chickens to infection with this natural recombinant termed ALV-B/J. Chickens were inoculated as 8-day-old embryos with strain ADOL-AF-115-4 of ALV-B/J, strain ADOL-Hc1 of ALV-J or strain RAV-2 of ALV-B. At various ages, chickens were evaluated for ALV-induced viremia and antibody; chickens were also observed for tumors. Comparative analysis of virus infection and tumor responses in chickens from various lines to infection with recombinant ALV-B/J, ALV-J and ALV-B will be presented.
