Characterization Of Chemical And Physical Properties Of Dried Distillers' Grains With Solubles (Ddgs) By Varying Solubles Percentage. Meeting Abstract. North Central Asae/csae Conference. Technical Abstract: Distillers grains are a byproduct of corn fermentation during the production of ethanol. Dried Distillers Grains with Solubles (DDGS) are excellent feed sources for cattle. Due to the tremendous growth of ethanol industries, there is significant production of DDGS, which must be economically transported greater distances and then properly stored in silos until fed to livestock. These materials can contain approximately 12% moisture and 8 to 12% fat. Because of these fat and moisture levels, transportation and storage can be problematic. Thus there is a need for information regarding the handling characteristics of typical DDGS streams. The objective of this study was to examine the effect of adding preservatives, varying the amount of solubles, and altering drying conditions and cooling rates on the physical and chemical properties of DDGS. The results of the study to date will be presented.
