Gulf War Syndrome
Gulf War Syndrome, or Persian Gulf Syndrome, describes a wide range of symptoms and illnesses reported by people who served in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in 1990-91.

Medical experts have concluded that while Gulf War veterans suffer from real illnesses, there is no single disease or medical condition that affects Gulf War veterans. However, typical symptoms include fatigue, skin rash, headache, muscle and joint pain, memory loss and difficulty concentrating, shortness of breath, sleep disturbances, gastrointestinal problems and chest pain. Exact causes and long term effects are still being studied.

"What I like best about my job is the diversity of responsibilities and work that is performed. At the Clinical Center we perform lots of diagnostic tests like blood gas analysis, EKG’s, assistance with bronchoscopies and intensive physiological monitoring. The patients here are very special."
