Where Can I Get a Waterfowl Identification Booklet?

Ducks at a Distance and Waterfowl Identification in the Central Flyway are two of the most popular resources on this site. Both are based on pocket-sized booklets with the same name.

Ducks at a Distance was developed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service but unfortunately is out of print. Leftover copies from previous printings may still be available from various Fish and Wildlife Service Offices and National Wildlife Refuges around the country. Another source for Ducks at a Distance is Outdoor Empire Publishing Company. They have reprinted the booklet both in 8 × 11" format and as a section contained in their "Wildlife Identification Pocket Guide." See their Web site for current pricing and ordering instructions.

Waterfowl Identification in the Central Flyway was published by states and provinces of the Central Flyway. Most member states and provinces supply complimentary copies to hunters. Contact the waterfowl biologist at the appropriate state or provincial wildlife agency to determine if copies are available and how to obtain one.
