Abstract Book

EPSCoR Funding by Agency

Welcome to the U.S. Department of Energy's Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (DOE/EPSCoR) web site. These pages contain information about the Department's EPSCoR Program, including a program overview and links to participant states' achievements. All of the states have their own web sites containing program descriptions, recently released reports, and searchable databases.

The DOE/EPSCoR program supports basic research spanning the entire range of research supported by the Department in states that have historically received relatively less Federal research funding. The EPSCoR program supports research cluster activities at  EPSCoR states through Implementation grants and to individual investigator projects through Laboratory-Partnership grants in all EPSCoR states and Puerto Rico.  The work supported by the EPSCoR program includes materials science, chemical science, biological and environmental science, high energy and nuclear physics, fusion energy science, advanced computer science, fossil energy science, and energy efficiency and renewable energy science. DOE/EPSCoR has placed a high priority on integrating the scientific manpower development component with the research component of the program. In addition, it is promoting strong research collaboration and training of students at the DOE national laboratories where unique and world-class facilities are supported by the Department. This program is science-driven and supports the most meritorious proposals based on peer and merit review. Workshops and discussions are regularly held with representative scientists from EPSCoR states to acquaint them with the facilities and personnel at the DOE laboratories.

If you have additional questions or would like additional information, please contact the DOE/EPSCoR program manager in DOE's Office of Basic Energy Sciences, Division of Materials Sciences and Engineering.
