Individuals submitting ADVANCE Fellows proposals as independent PIs must first register as a FastLane organization via NSF's FastLane system.

To access this system, go to the NSF Home Page http://www.nsf.gov/
Click on FastLane (at the left side of screen), and the FastLane Home Page will appear.

At the FastLane Home Page, click on Registration Information.

At the Registration Information screen, click on New Organization and FastLane Contact Registration.

At the New Organization and FastLane Contact Registration screen, type your name into the Organization Name: box and click on Organization Search. A "New Organization Registration Request" screen will appear. It contains the "New Organization Registration Form".

Just above the "New Organization Registration Form" (on the left) is a box marked New Individual Registration. Click on this box and the "New Individual Registration Request" screen will appear.

Complete all required fields (identified by an asterisk) on the "New Individual Registration Form" and click on the Submit box near the bottom of the page. You will be asked to print out your completed form and to sign it. You can either mail it to NSF at the address they will provide, or FAX it to the number they will provide. NSF will respond to you by e-mail with an organization ID number for you to use in preparing your proposal in FastLane.

When you have received your organization ID number and are ready to begin preparing your proposal in FastLane, return to the FastLane Home Page (top, left side) and click on Proposals, Awards & Status. Complete Login information and click on Login. When the next screen asks "What do you want to work on?", click on Proposal Functions.

At the Proposal Functions screen, select Proposal Preparation and you are ready to begin inputting your proposal into FastLane.

Note: If you click on FastLane Help on the FastLane Homepage, you will find help modules for "proposal preparation" that cover all aspects of preparation and submission:

  • Instructions for Preparing and Submitting a Standard Proposal
  • FastLane Proposal Preparation and Submission Guide (2MB PDF File)
  • Grant Proposal Guide
  • Proposal Preparation FAQ

It would be helpful to review this information before beginning Proposal Preparation.
