The perception of federal mail management has progressively evolved since the attacks of September 11, 2001. Federal mail managers are actively searching for tools and best practices to improve mail center management and promote effective and efficient security measures. That is why GSA dedicates this category and the following web pages to our federal mail managers nationwide. Please contact GSA with any ideas, articles of interest, or best practices that can be shared with other federal mail managers.

The Federal Agency Mail Manager must have visibility within the agency and be at a managerial level enabling him or her to execute an agencywide program. Here is a current list of Federal Agency Mail Managers.

The responsibilities of the agency mail manager include: ensuring agency wide awareness and compliance with the mail management standards set forth by the U.S. Postal Service in the Domestic Mail Manual, the International Mail Manual and the Postal Bulletin, as well as GSA standards and guidelines; negotiating on behalf of the agency with the U.S. Postal Service for mail related services and implementing operational procedures for services acquired from private delivery vendors and couriers; developing and distributing throughout the agency an agency mail cost control program.
