Because the Government Printing Office Style Manual does not specifically address bibliography and reference citation style, the OVC Publications Unit developed guidelines based on the Chicago Manual of Style. Samples include—

Note that whenever possible, citations should include links to the actual documents.

* If necessary, you may use a different style for references and notes. However, you must ensure that citations are consistent and include the following information: author; title of article; title of publication; volume number, month, and year of publication if taken from a journal; place of publication; publisher; year of publication only if a book; and page numbers, if appropriate. It is imperative that complete and accurate citations are provided. Incomplete information will delay the publication of your product.
