VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (NNS) -- Naval leaders addressed today’s top issues facing the military at the Ninth Annual Warfare Exposition and Symposium Sept. 29-30.

The symposium drew top naval leaders and approximately 200 vendors, who supply the military with everything from educational tools and uniforms to ships and aircraft. The theme of this year’s conference was “Ready or not? How do we respond with ready forces to the right place at the right time to win the next war?”

“We’ve got a lot of experience in this Navy of ours...and some of the important lessons we’ve learned have been that essentials must be in place," said Adm. William J. Fallon, commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command. "We have to focus on people, ensuring that we have the best prepared folks, the best trained, the most adaptable folks that can deal with these future challenges.”

Navy leaders addressed issues such as people and technology, in addition to some of the Navy’s newer policies. Vendors were also on hand to showcase how technology can further military training.

“Symposiums and the associated trade show here in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area give us a chance...to get out and show our products to the fleet Sailors, the officers that are driving the ships, the pilots that are flying the aircraft, and get an idea from them how we’re doing, what they wish we did differently,” said Jim Mcingvale, a corporate communications director.

The Navy’s senior leadership noted the impact such vendors and products have on Sailors and Marines.

“What Sailors and Marines do on the front line,” said Secretary of the Navy Gordon England, “they couldn’t do without all these companies behind the lines. So, I thank them. This is the technology that makes all this possible for us.”
