NRC APPROVES POWER UPRATE FOR POINT BEACH NUCLEAR PLANT
Printable Verision PDF Icon

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has approved a request by Nuclear Management Company to increase the generating capacity of the Point Beach Nuclear Power Plant by 1.4 percent.

The power uprate at the plant, in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, will increase the generating capacity of the Units 1 and 2 reactors from 511 megawatts electric to 518 each. The licensee intends to implement the power uprate within 90 days.

The NRC's safety evaluation of the requested power uprate for the plant focused on several areas, including nuclear steam supply systems, instrumentation and control systems, electrical systems, accident evaluations, radiological consequences, operations, and other technical specification changes. The NRC staff determined that the licensee could safely increase the power output of the reactor primarily through increased feedwater flow measurement accuracy.
