Notice Regarding Use of Interagency Edison for Grants Made Prior to July 1, 2002

This notice serves as a clarification regarding the use of Interagency Edison for meeting the terms and conditions regarding Patents and Inventions.  New terms and conditions were placed into effect by the Agricultural Research Service (ARS), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) on July 1, 2002, which require the use of Interagency Edison for all patent and invention reporting as required by the Bayh-Dole Act of 1980.  These revised terms and conditions, and thus the requirement for using Interagency Edison, are applied retroactively to all grants that were active on July 1, 2002.

The terms and conditions of grants that expired prior to July 1, 2002 require a different mechanism for invention and patent reporting.  However, ARS finds submission of invention and patent notices to Interagency Edison to be an acceptable alternative means for meeting the terms and conditions of these awards.  Grantees may submit invention and patent reporting directly through Interagency Edison instead of to ARS.  For further information on the use of Interagency Edison, please visit the web site at http://www.iedison.gov/.
