Mail Management Mail Manager Professional Certification Programs

Professional managers interested in having their expertise certified can choose from several trade association-sponsored certification programs. Today over 250 managers have received some sort of professional designation in a broad range of mail and printing related positions. In the years ahead, the number will grow into the thousands. Each program has established special requirements, with some mandating a final, written examination before the candidate becomes certified. The following associations and programs were recommended by Federal Agency Mail Managers who are members of the Interagency Mail Policy Council.

Mail Systems Management Association (MSMA)

The MSMA has established the "Certified Mail and Distribution Systems Manager" (CMDSM) program. The MSMA is the only nationally organized, independent association dedicated to mail systems management. A candidate does not have to be a member of the MSMA to participate in this program, although the non-member certification fee does provide for a one-year, individual MSMA membership. MSMA certification is open to professionals in mail systems management; administrative, office services, or facilities managers with responsibilities for mail and distribution systems; distribution, messenger, shipping, receiving, or fulfillment manager; and consultants who serve the needs of the field.
