National Diabetes Education Program

NDEP Policies
Material and Logo Guidelines

To help partners and other organizations use NDEP materials and logos and understand how materials can be used, we have established policies intended to promote the high quality and scientific integrity of NDEP as well as consistency in programs.

The NDEP does not endorse commercial products, services, educational programs or enterprises. Thus, our name and logos CANNOT be used in any manner that suggests a direct or implied endorsement. The following policies apply to existing and future NDEP logos.

When using NDEP materials, we ask that you

  • Maintain the consistency, quality and scientific integrity of the NDEP by following our program policies.
  • Contact us if there are questions about applying the NDEP policies or if these policies do not address your situation.

The following are NDEP policies for using the following:

  • NDEP program name and logo
  • Campaign for Life logo
  • Duplication of program materials

The NDEP program name and logo symbolize the mission, goal, objectives, policies, messages, and strategies of the NDEP. Because it represents the NDEP's identity, the program name and logo can only be used as designed and produced. Its design CANNOT be changed or edited in any way.

Logo: National Diabetes Education ProgramUse of the NDEP program logo and name that doesn't require permission from the NDEP

As long as the products and materials are consistent with the NDEP's mission, goals, objectives and messages use the program name and logo of the NDEP on the following products:

  • Newsletters and journal articles
  • Web sites
  • Radio and Television Programs, PSAs or advertisements
  • Announcements on diabetes and conferences sponsored by partners (especially if the conference includes a presentation of the NDEP)
  • Premium/promotional items (mugs, pens, t-shirts, magnets, etc.), unless in conjunction with other organizational or commercial company names (see permission required policies, below)
  • In conjunction with NDEP's priority diabetes messages. The NDEP campaign theme is, "Control your diabetes. For life." The sub-messages are
    • Test your blood sugar levels regularly.
    • Eat healthy foods in the right amounts.
    • Get regular physical activity.
    • Take diabetes medications as prescribed.

Use of the NDEP name and logo that require permission

Logo: Control Your Diabetes for LifeUse the Campaign for Life Logo without Permission from NDEP

  • In conjunction with partner products. For example, the Washington State Diabetes Control Program added the campaign logo to its fax cover sheet.
  • On products or program materials developed by partner organizations that promote the "Control your diabetes. For life." message or at least one of the campaign's four sub-messages:
    • Test blood sugar levels regularly.
    • Eat healthy foods in the right amounts.
    • Get regular physical activity.
    • Take diabetes medications as prescribed.
  • For example, the Michigan Diabetes Control Program added the campaign logo to their diabetes education brochures. Partners should ensure that the content of their education products are supported by current science.
  • Can be used alone on promotional items (pens, T-Shirts), in conjunction with educational products consistent with NDEP's messages (diabetes education brochure that discusses nutrition, physical activity), and on flyers for diabetes education events (excluding diabetes screening)
  • Can be modified to reflect an organization's desire to have their "own identity" as a NDEP campaign partner (send us a copy). However, the "Control your diabetes. For life." message and overall integrity of the campaign logo's design must be preserved.
  • AAIP's Adaptation of the Control For Life Campaign LogoFor example, the Association of American Indian Physicians replaced the sun design in the NDEP logo with feathers.
