White House Web Mail FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

  1. What is White House Web Mail?

White House Web Mail provides an additional means for individuals to inquire about policy issues and receive automated, timely, and substantive responses from the White House.

  2. What is the purpose of Web Mail?

This system provides U.S. citizens and residents with the opportunity to submit a written message using the Internet to the White House and allows the White House real-time access to your comments. The White House Web Mail system automatically responds with a formatted letter on the issue you inquired about. Due to the large volume of email submissions, we cannot assure that each message will be personally reviewed.

  3. What are the appropriate uses of Web Mail?

Web Mail should be used to learn more about President Bush's policies and to share your views with the Administration. If you are interested in commenting on topics not listed, or if your message is sensitive or requires personal attention, please do not use this system. Please write President Bush at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, DC 20502 or fax to 202-456-2461.

  4. Am I able to e-mail President George W. Bush at President@WhiteHouse.gov?

Yes, you may still send e-mail messages to this address. However, as in the past, an auto-response will be sent in reply. To ensure you receive a more substantive and personalized response, please use the White House Web Mail system.

  5. What are the benefits of using Web Mail?

Using the Internet to communicate with the White House through Web Mail ensures replies are timely and substantive and helps your Government be more responsive and cost-effective.

  6. What do I need to do to ensure a reply?

After you submit your message through Web Mail, an e-mail is sent to verify the authenticity of your submission and to confirm your interest in receiving a response from the White House. In order to receive a response, please reply to this message without changing the subject line within 72 hours from the time stamp. If you do not reply to this e-mail confirmation message or provide valid address information, White House Web Mail will disregard the submission received.

  7. Who is in charge of administrating the Web Mail system?

The Executive Office of the President is responsible for the operation of Web Mail.

  8. How is personal information maintained and who has access to that information?

If you choose to send a Web Mail to the White House the personal information you provide will be used to respond to your message. We do not collect personal information for any other purpose. The information you provide is not given to any private organizations or private persons. The White House does not collect or use information for commercial marketing.
