button representing National Infant Immunization Week
Theme--Vaccination: An Act of Love
Love them, Protect Them, Immunize Them

This annual observance emphasizes immunizing infants against 12 vaccine preventable diseases by the age of two. Over 500 communities across the country are expected to participate in this important week by planning community awareness and media events to promote infant immunizations to parents, caregivers, providers, and their communities. This year during NIIW, the United States will join the Pan American Health Organization and the U.S. -Mexico Border Health Commission in support of Vaccination Week in the Americas to promote immunization in all countries of the Americas. NIIW: At a Glance

Print-friendly "NIIW: At a Glance"
  At a Glance in Spanish

National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW) is an annual observance to promote the benefits of immunizations and to improve the health of children two years old or younger. Since 1994, NIIW has provided an excellent opportunity for local and state health departments, national immunization partners, health care providers, and community leaders from across the country to highlight the positive impact of immunization on the lives of infants and children and to call attention to immunization achievements. As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of NIIW, the CDC is pleased to expand our immunization efforts and to be a part of an historic event. For the first time ever, childhood immunization and access to health services will be promoted concurrently in all countries in the Americas through the Pan American Health Organization’s (PAHO) Vaccination Week in the Americas (VWA), April 24-30. See PAHO Press Release for additional information.

More than 35 countries in the Western Hemisphere will work together on this unprecedented event, to highlight the need for routine vaccinations and to promote access to health services for infants and children during the last week in April. To kick off the partnership between NIIW and VWA, bi-national awareness and education events are being planned in conjunction with PAHO and the US-Mexico Border Health Commission in sister city sites along the US-Mexico border including San Diego, California – Tijuana, Mexico and El Paso, Texas and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.

These border communities will join over 500 communities from across the United States to participate in NIIW and VWA by planning community awareness and media events to promote infant immunizations to parents, caregivers, health care providers, and their communities. Join in the celebration—create your own NIIW event and help to ensure that all children in your community and throughout the Western Hemisphere have a healthy and safe childhood free from vaccine-preventable diseases.

Reproduction Instructions

NIIW Posters, flyers and brochures cannot be ordered through the CDC. However, there are three ways you can easily reproduce NIIW materials:

Office Printer: You can download black and white or color versions of these files in .pdf format for PRINT with your office laser printer or color printer.

*Note: Be sure to check your printer settings, as some of the poster files are supplied in 11" x 17" formats but can be easily scaled to print on 8 1/2" x 11" paper. Also, be patient as these files are extremely large and take a long time to print.

Local Copy Center: Materials in color or black and white .pdf format can be reproduced at a local copy center.

Commercial (off-set) Printer: If you want to reproduce higher quality or large quantities of these materials, consider using a local commercial printer**. We would be pleased to provide Adobe Photo Shop 7.0 files or .pdf format for PRESS for use with commercial printers. Please contact Cindy Gann at ctg7@cdc.gov to request a CD-ROM with NIIW commercial printer formatted materials.

**Note: A commercial printer is a person who works for a company that reproduces multiple copies of printed material for a fee.
