Batch Citation Matcher
and Journal Lists
Last updated January 30, 2003
Enter each citation in the Batch Citation Matcher on a separate line
using the following input format:
-
Journal_Title|year|volume|first_page|AuthorName|Your_key|
Note that each field is separated by vertical bars, with a final bar at
the end of the string. The Matcher will return one line for each
citation requested using the following output format:
-
Journal_Title|Year|Volume|First_page|AuthorName|Your_key|UID
If a citation is not found, the UID field will contain one of the following:
-
INVALID_JOURNAL -- The journal name is not a known abbreviation. See the
journal lists below or consult the Journals
Database to find the correct abbreviation for a journal.
-
NOT_FOUND -- The Journal name is valid, but the rest of the citation did
not match.
-
AMBIGUOUS -- The information provided matches more than one citation. You
may wish to use the Single
Citation Matcher to find the correction citation.
Notes:
-
The default UID is PMID. To change the output to the MEDLINE UI,
select MEDLINE from the Output identifier type pull-down menu.
-
Fields are not case sensitive.
-
Authors must be entered in the format, lastname<space>initials, without
periods. Initials are optional. For example, Johnson BF, Jacques P, Smith.
-
Your key is any string that you use to tag the citation. It is returned
unaltered.
-
The Journal Title field may include either the full journal title or the
MEDLINE journal abbreviation.
-
The Batch Citation Matcher looks at each citation field string starting
with the journal title until a unique match is found, then returns the
UI number. The Single Citation
Matcher searches for all fields entered into the fill-in-the-blank
form.
-
The Journal Title is a required field. However, you may omit any other
field and the matcher will use the remaining information to find a match.
If you omit a field in the middle of a citation string you must retain
the vertical bars. For example, if you omit the volume number 88 from the
first example below, it should be entered as:
PROC NATL ACAD SCI U S A|1991||3248|MANN BJ|P32022-1|
Input example:
PROC NATL ACAD SCI U S A|1991|88|3248|MANN BJ|P32022-1|
PROC NATL ACAD SCI U S A|1992|89|3271|GOULD SE|P26261-1|
