On a per capita basis, no state has provided more citizen soldiers to fight the war on terrorism than North Dakota. To date, fifteen different North Dakota National Guard and Reserve units have been mobilized to active duty since the terrorist attacks on our nation which occurred on September 11, 2001. This year, I received many applications from good, qualified candidates throughout North Dakota. After reviewing them all, I have selected three outstanding North Dakota high school students for appointment to the U.S. military academies. Federal Reserve Board Chairman Alan Greenspan recently suggested that Social Security benefits be cut, because of sky-rocketing budget deficits. Those deficits were not created by senior citizens or by Social Security, but rather by a parade of huge taxcuts that primarily benefited the most wealthy Americans and big corporations.
