Trash Update
In a September 9, 2004 Associated Press article about Canadian trash
shipments to Michigan, Toronto Mayor David Miller stated, “There is a plan
B. The (waste hauling) company is obliged to find us alternative landfills. They
have commercial arrangements with other landfill operators.” Unfortunately,
because
of the EPA’s inaction on stopping Canadian trash, Toronto has never been
forced to switch their trash disposal to these non-Michigan landfills. Read

Stabenow Leads Effort to Fully Fund Homeland Security
Despite the fact that a blue-ribbon panel warned more than
a year ago that the United States is not providing adequate
resources to local emergency
responders, the Senate today failed to pass an amendment to the Homeland
Security Appropriations bill, authored by Senators Debbie Stabenow and
Christopher Dodd (D-CT), that would implement the panel’s

Stabenow Introduces Legislation to Block Medicare Premium Increase
U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow is introducing legislation that will place a cap
on Medicare premiums, which would otherwise jump 17.5 percent in 2005. “Congress
has intervened in the past to hold down Medicare premium increases, and – faced
with the largest Medicare premium increase in the program’s history – we
