Key Extramural Staff Roles
Working
closely with the scientific community, NIAID extramural staff advance
institute priorities by facilitating the funding of high-quality research
projects.
This section highlights staff who play vital roles in the
various stages of the funding process -- solicitation, assignment, review,
pre-award, award, and post-award. Cooperative, collegial relationships
between the program, review, grants, and contract teams are essential.
Before and after award, extramural staff perform complementary
roles. For example, grants and contract staff take the lead in the award
stage. In supporting roles, program officers finalize funding plans and
scientific review administrators provide budget note clarifications.
