The Marine Bioproducts Engineering Center, a joint
ERC of the University of Hawaii and UC, Berkeley, maintains
the new Edwin W. Pauley Marine Laboratory on Coconut
Island to isolate and identify species from one of the
most unique and diverse marine ecosystems in the world.
The ERC employs the Pisces V, a 2,000-meter rated submersible,
and its mothership to access bioresources living in active
submarine volcano vents and other remote seafloor environments
throughout the Pacific. |
