Frequently Asked Questions

  • I thought this was a site for grants. Where are they?

"Grants" is too limited a word for the range of assistance you can find in the CFDA. There are currently 15 types of assistance available including surplus equipment, training, guaranteed loans, and, of course, grants.

  • How do I apply for a grant?

Once you have found an assistance program you wish to apply for, follow the directions contained within that program. Each program is unique and has its own requirements and procedures.

  • Where can I find assistance to go to school?

Contact the financial aid office of the school(s) you want to attend. They will have information on a wide variety of assistance options available to you from the Federal Government as well as many other sources not listed in the CFDA.

  • Where can I find assistance to start a business?

The Federal Government offers many programs to assist you in starting a business. There are a few programs which offer direct loans or guaranteed/insured loans for specific purposes but there are many more programs offering a wide variety of services directed at enhancing business and commerce and aid to small businesses.

  • Can you send me a grant application?

You need to read the requirements for the program(s) you are interested in. While some programs have their own specific application forms, many use the Standard Form 424, Application for Federal Assistance, for applications. Visit the OMB Grants Management Page for a wide selection of forms related to grants.

  • Why can't I download the Standard Form 424, Application for Federal Assistance?

This file needs the Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to display. You will need to download this plug-in or update the version you have on your system. Download the regular version of Adobe Acrobat Reader. Or, download the text-only version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.
