Instructions for Requesting a Volunteer CDC Speaker
The CDC Volunteer Speakers' Bureau is made up of CDC employees in all ranks,
grades, and area of expertise. They volunteer their time if work permits. Each
request is sent to those employees who can speak on the requested subject.
Sometimes, we are unable to fill a request because volunteers with the expertise
you need cannot fit the date requested into their schedules. If you know who you
want to speak, send the request directly to that person instead of the Volunteer
Speakers' Bureau.
Before I can forward a request to the volunteer speakers, I must be able to
give them complete details. Please include the following information in your
letter of invitation and mail, e-mail or fax it and the Request for
Speaker form (PDF) (WordPerfect)
to the address below.
Information to Include in Your Letter of Invitation
- Organization's name, address, and phone number.
- Name of meeting or convention.
- Date, time and location (complete street address) of speech or
presentation.
- Subject or topic of speech. Be as specific as possible.
- Type of audience and how many will be in attendance.
- Any offer of reimbursement to CDC or the speaker. CDC speakers are
government employees and cannot accept an honorarium if they are speaking on a
work-related topic.
- If your group is in Atlanta, disregard the following:
The items that can be reimbursed or provided include:
- Transportation to and from destination.
- Ground transportation to and from the airport.
- Local transportation costs (e.g., taxi, limo, bus).
- Lodging.
- Meals.
- Miscellaneous expenses (Federal employees cannot accept an
honorarium if they are speaking in an official capacity).

Once I receive your request, it is sent to those volunteer speakers who have
expertise in that area. When a speaker volunteers, his/her name, e-mail address
and phone number will be given to you. You make all final arrangements directly
with the volunteer speaker.
