National Violent Death Reporting System
Overview
Local, state, and
national policy makers and community program developers need better
information about violent deaths. To address this need, CDC provides
funding to state health departments to implement the National
Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS). State and local agencies use
this system to input detailed information from medical examiners,
coroners, police, crime labs and death certificates that could
answer important fundamental questions about violence. NVDRS then
pools these valuable data to better depict the scope and nature of
violence. For more
information about NVDRS, see About the Program.
