Requesting a Decision

PDs come about in two ways:

  1. For something in evaluation, the evaluation team may issue an Observation Report (OR) through their validator, which will result in the issuing of an Observation Decision (OD). This OD will be reviewed by the OD Review Board (ODRB), and if it can be generalized, will be issued as a PD.

If you are an evaluator and want to develop an OR, you should start with the OR/OD Template. This is an HTML file editable in almost any word processor (Word, WordPerfect) or HTML editor (Composer, etc.). To save the file, right-click on the link and choose the "Save Link Target As" or "Save Target As" option. Complete the OR and transmit it to your validator.

  2. For something not in evaluation, a non-proprietary discussion of the problem may be started on the cc-cmt mailing list. To subscribe, send an email to listproc@nist.gov. The body of the message should contain the line:

    subscribe cc-cmt your-first-name your-last-name

This will start a subscription for the "From:" address of the request Email. Archives of the cc-cmt list may be found at http://cio.nist.gov/esd/emaildir/lists/cc-cmt/maillist.html.
