Nominations Open for the MaleSurvivor Board of Directors

BOARD MEMBER REQUIREMENTS

In addition to the Board member descriptions outlined in the by-laws, there are other expectations and requirement that Board members must be aware of prior to committing to join the Board. Standard expectations/requirements are as follows:

  • Board members are expected to hold chairmanship of either a Primary or Subcommittee. As Primary Committees must be chaired by a Board member any vacant Primary Chair positions should be given first consideration. New Board members should select a chair position in which their skills, knowledge and interest will best serve the organization.
  • Board members are expected to attend the two annual retreats (Spring and Fall). Locations for retreats typically rotate among east coast, west coast and central cities, determined partly by the locations of board members and in consideration of bi-annual conference locations.
  • Board members with a valid reason to miss a meeting must inform the President and ensure that his/her reports and other materials to be presented are forwarded to an alternate Board member for presentation.
  • Board members are expected to book their own flights and hotel. However, the hotel is selected and arrangements for special rates are arranged by the Board member hosting the retreat.
  • All travel and hotel expenses are to be submitted to the Treasurer of the Board as soon as possible after returning home from a retreat. The Treasurer will reimburse each board member for his/her expenses. All board expenses will be totaled, divided by the number of board members and then each board member is expected to make a donation to MS accordingly.
  • Board members who are not financially able to donate the averaged amount may apply to the President and Treasurer for a waiver.
  • Committee reports are to be prepared and submitted in advance of each Board retreat. Reports are required for submission to the President and Board as a whole, at least one month prior to a retreat.
  • Any Board member who holds a Subcommittee Chair, is required to submit his/her report to the appropriate Primary Committee chair at least six weeks in advance of each retreat.
  • It is expected that Board members fulfill their term in office. If for personal or professional reasons one must withdraw, an alternate must be identified and recommended to the Board for consideration.
  • Board members are expected to check for email messages from the Board on a regular basis and to respond to any pertinent issues that may arise in those email correspondences.
  • Board members are expected to visit the MS web site on a regular basis and in particular the Discussion Board. It is important for all board members to have a presence in the Discussion Board.
  • Finally, Board members must be aware of and give due consideration to public perception of MS and to participate in the web site or any and all other public domains in such a manner as will reflect well on the good name and works of the organization.

Childhood Sexual Abuse
Researchers at John Jay College of Criminal Justice are conducting a study to better understand the effects of child sexual abuse in adult men and women. We hope this research will help us to learn more about providing appropriate care for survivors of childhood abuse, particularly for men who have been understudied relative to women survivors of sexual abuse.

The study seeks adult men in the New York City/ Northern New Jersey area who have experienced child sexual abuse for an assessment study. Participants will be asked to complete a set of questionnaires and to meet with a clinical interviewer to talk about ways in which you cope with difficult situations.

Participants will be paid for their time. Referrals for free crisis intervention and counseling resources are available.

All information is kept confidential. Participants’ identities will not be used in any publication from this study
