FirstGov.Gov Fact Sheet

FirstGov.gov allows citizens to find services, transact business and interact directly with their government within three clicks. FirstGov.gov is the "Front Door" to The President's e-gov initiatives and supports his management strategy for giving citizens better access to government.

FirstGov.gov is truly a one-stop easy access web portal to all government online services, which allows citizens to quickly find and conduct business without needing to know which department or agency provides it. FirstGov.gov helps the citizen navigate through the bureaucracy without having to know organizational structure, program names, or the acronyms of government agencies. Citizens are also able to provide direct feedback to 130 agency programs in three branches of the federal government as well as to their state government. FirstGov has evolved from primarily an information web portal to one that provides direct access to real life government transactions in a user-friendly secure environment.

FirstGov.gov tailors all government services and information by three customer segments:

C to G Citizen to Government,
B to G Business to Government,
G to G Government to Government.

FirstGov.gov provides access to over 180 million pages of web based federal, state and local government resources available 24/7 directly to you. With FirstGov.gov, citizens can shop online, find a job, calculate retirement savings, apply for benefits, interact with their government, and much more all from one location.

FirstGov.gov was originally launched on September 22, 2000, during a live webcast originating from the White House Oval Office. Understanding the power of the Internet, FirstGov became a major tool for the government after the September 11, 2001 tragedy. FirstGov provided the most accurate, timely and comprehensive collection of critical information, resources and government services available during this crisis. FirstGov's award winning portal is an interagency initiative managed by the Office of Citizen Services and Communications at the U.S. General Services Administration.

New Enhanced Design (Version 5.0) released February 27, 2002.
