What is
a PopSet?
|
A PopSet is a set of DNA sequences that
have been collected to analyse the evolutionary relatedness of a population. The population could originate from different members of the same species, or from organisms from different species. They are submitted to GenBank via Sequin, often as
a sequence alignment.

Example
of a PopSet |
The snapping shrimp (genus
Alpheus) earns its name from the noise made by the rapid shutting of
its snapping claw used to stun or kill prey. Alpheus is a
particularly diverse genus, making it ideal to estimate rates of evolution.
Sequence data from two nuclear genes
and one mitochondrial gene suggest that Alpheus encompasses three major clades, consistent with previous morphological data, and that specialized ecological requirements and different claw morphologies
have evolved independently several times. |
