Welcome to the pig genome resources guide. The pig has been designated a moderate priority organism by the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI). This homepage will bring together information on porcine-related resources from NCBI and the pig research community.
We encourage your suggestions.
Photo courtesy of the Agricultural Research Service, USDA The pig (Sus scrofa) is an important model organism for health issues such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, and organ transplantation. It represents the artiodactyls, or cloven-hoofed mammals, which are an evolutionary clade distinct from the primates and rodents. Pigs exist in both feral and domesticated populations, which have distinct phenotypes and karyotypes.
