How Can I Help Someone?

Maybe somebody you know uses alcohol or drugs too much. It might be a parent, or a sister or brother, or a friend. You can find out some ways to help that person, or help yourself!

    Get Information.

This means, read and ask questions. It helps to learn more about alcohol and drugs, so that you and the people you know can stay safe and drug-free!

If a parent drinks too much, here are some things you can read:

    Ask for Help.

Sometimes, people are embarrassed to ask for help. But asking an adult for help with a tough situation is a sign that you are STRONG, not weak.

    Things you can do:

  • If you are worried about a situation with someone who uses alcohol or drugs too much, talk to somebody you trust. Maybe one of your parents, or an older brother, sister, cousin, friend, aunt, uncle, grandparent, relative, teacher, or school counselor would be a good person to talk to.
  • Write down the names and phone numbers of people who can help you. Know who to call, just in case.
