One Sullivan County Disaster Recovery Center To Close

ALBANY, N.Y -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management (FEMA) and the New York State Emergency Management Office (SEMO) announce the closing of one Sullivan County Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) at the Monticello Neighborhood Community Center at 2 Jefferson St. in Monticello.

The center has successfully served those who needed disaster recovery information and will close on Friday, October 15, 2004 at 8 p.m.

There are still two DRCs open in Sullivan County for those who would like disaster information. The following centers are open with hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week until further notice.

An additional option for those who want to check on the status of their application, change application information or get further disaster assistance information is FEMA’s toll-free Helpline at 1-800-621-3362 (choose option two)— available from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., daily until October 18 when the hours will change to 6 a.m. to 12 p.m., daily.

And those who have computers can visit FEMA’s helpful and informative Web site (www.fema.gov). The site features frequently asked questions regarding disaster assistance.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA’s continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
