04/23 HIV-1 Protein Interaction Database The new HIV-1, Human Protein Interaction Database provides a concise, yet detailed, summary of all known interactions of HIV-1 proteins with host cell proteins, other HIV-1 proteins, or proteins from disease organisms associated with HIV/AIDS. The Division of Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (DAIDS) of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) initiated the project, in collaboration with Southern Research Institute and the NCBI.

03/31 Cancer Chromosomes The new Cancer Chromosomes database can be used to find cytogenetic, clinical, and reference information. This new database, part of the Entrez retrieval system, integrates information from the NCI Mitelman Database of Chromosome Aberrations in Cancer, the NCI Recurrent Aberrations in Cancer database, and the NCI/NCBI SKY/M-FISH & CGH Database.

03/16 Microbial Diversity A new Coffee Break report discusses microbial diversity in "wild" microbial populations revealing new species with novel metabolisms. A paper published by Venter et al. describes a whole genome shotgun approach to environmental sampling of the Sargasso Sea.

03/01 Entrez HomoloGene HomoloGene a system for automated detection of homologs among eukaryotic gene sets is available for searching in Entrez.
