Recent warmer weather has caused the snow cover
to retreat north into Illinois and Indiana. Notice that the southern edge of
the snow extends from just northwest of Evansville, IN to near Carbondale, IL.
A small area of snow cover also extends down into portions of southeast Missouri,
mainly north of Cape Girardeau. Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley can be seen as
the darker, less reflective spots that run north-south near the Tennessee and
Kentucky border. These highly detailed observations of the Earth's surface are
only possible when there are no clouds. Some clouds are visible on the
