Training Support

To assure an adequate national pool of informaticians and health information scientists, training is offered through formal programs and individual fellowships. NLM funds 18 centers for support of research training in medical informatics and, and both pre-doctoral and post-doctoral levels. Individual fellowships in informatics research and/or applied informatics are available to those who wish to identify their own mentor and host institution.

Eligibility: Post-doctoral applicants must have a doctoral degree relevant to biomedicine or computer science, or equivalent degree from accredited domestic or foreign institution. Pre-doctoral applicants must have graduate training in a relevant field.

Application Procedures: Fellowship applications use grant application form PHS 416 and are accepted at the standard deadline dates (April 5, August 5, and December 5) as indicated in the instructions.
