NLM Training Manuals and Resources

This page includes links to the training resources used in conjunction with the classes offered by the National Training Center and Clearinghouse (NTCC).

The PubMed Tutorial offers a just-in-time training alternative. The PubMed Tutorial is a Web-based interactive tutorial that enables anyone using a computer with Internet access to learn about PubMed. The tutorial can be reached directly from the PubMed sidebar by clicking "Tutorial."

Training materials for the courses are available in the following formats:

Materials for PubMed, NLM Gateway, and ClinicalTrials.gov classes—in Portable Document Format (PDF) and Microsoft^® (MS) Word
Materials for TOXNET class—in PDF and as Microsoft^® PowerPoint slides
Materials for Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) class—as PowerPoint slides
Materials for Molecular Biology Information Resources class—as HTML documents

Please Note: When downloading some of these files, you may need to use the "Save Next Link As..." or "Save to Disk" functions of your Web browser. For example, when using Netscape Navigator on a PC you would use the right mouse button on a link and then choose the "Save Link As" option. Please check with your systems administrator if you need assistance. PDF formats are best viewed with Adobe^® Acrobat^® Reader^™.

Some of the materials have been broken down into sections so you can choose the areas of interest to you. For the NLM Training: PubMed manual, download sections 1, 2, and 3. For NLM Training: NLM Gateway & ClinicalTrials.gov, download sections 4, 5, and 6.

These workbooks are not copyrighted. Feel free to use any part of the workbooks - you may customize parts for training programs, demonstrations, or workshops you conduct.
