Navigation Services
The Office of Coast Survey provides a wide variety of navigation services to help insure safe and reliable marine transportation. In an ever changing world, it is imperative to receive accurate information in a timely manner. Operating in a 365-days a-year environment, the Coast Survey's Rapid Response Teams conduct short-term (fast response) hydrographic surveys in areas that need them most. Navigation Managers who serve as the Coast Survey's representatives in the field, provide U.S. nautical products with a combination of commercial and local knowledge.

Providing advance notification for critical chart and Coast Pilot corrections, the Critical Corrections Web site offers information on hazards to navigation, channel conditions, and a wealth of additional material considered essential to safe navigation. To expedite the availability and application of chart and Coast Pilot changes, the Electronic Update Service for Digital Charts sends a weekly e-mail, with a hot-link attachment, providing the mariner with integrated updates for all of the charts on his CD-rom. Upon completion of the download, the mariner’s computer reads the information, applies the applicable patches and stores the updated charts on his hard drive for immediate use.

In an age when our Marine Transportation System is being pushed to its limits, the Office of Coast Survey strives to provide the highest-caliber information and services to safely navigate America into the future.
