NOAA Chart Update Overview
This service provides access to chart updates that have been published in United States Coast Guard (USCG) Local Notice to Mariners (LNM), National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) Notice to Mariners (NM) and Canadian Coast Guard Notice to Mariners (CNM). For a chart update that has been first published in the USCG LNM and at a later date in the NGA NM, the chart correction is listed just once and referenced to the earlier USCG LNM publication. A similar relationship exists between Canadian NM and NGA NM.
The chart updates available on this site reflect the same chart update information available on the NOAA Print-on-Demand paper charts, the NOAA raster chart update service, and the NOAA Electronic Navigational Charts (NOAA ENC®). In addition, this site provides advance notification on chart updates affecting hazards to navigation and other information considered essential for safe navigation, e.g. channel conditions, bridge and cable clearances, and regulatory changes that NOAA has identified and forwarded for publication in both the USCG LNM and the NGA NM. Temporary changes to aids to navigation, special published announcements and other important information affecting navigational safety are not available on this web site.

The information available on this web site is derived from the NOS Critical Chart Corrections data base (CRIT), which has been used as an in-house chart production tool, and may contain some naming conventions, textual abbreviations or acronyms that are unfamiliar to the general public.
Due to ongoing development of the NOS Critical Chart Corrections data base (CRIT) throughout the previous decade of the 1990’s , channel tabulations, depth legends, depth notes and chartlets may not be included in chart update listings prior to January 2000.
