National Family Caregivers Month
NFC
2003 Kit Cover Letter
Dear Colleague:
I am pleased to share with you materials that we have developed
for National Family Caregivers Month. The month is being observed
as we also celebrate the enactment of the U.S. Administration
on Aging National Family Caregiver Support Program in 2000. This
year we are proud to unveil our new logo with the tagline “Creating
Communities of Care.”
Individuals who care for older persons face significant challenges.
Many caregivers either don’t know that help is available
or don’t know where it can be found. National Family Caregivers
Month offers us the opportunity to increase public awareness
about the availability of caregiver support services and to alert
caregivers about how to find much-needed services. We also want
to share our accomplishments and communicate that the National
Family Caregiver Support Program is even more successful than
expected in reaching caregivers.
Members of the National Aging Services Network can have a significant
role in this effort. We urge you to take part in this year’s
Caregivers Month to raise awareness about Older Americans Act
programs and to demonstrate how the network can help older persons
and their caregivers. Please consider using the suggestions in
the enclosed kit for Caregivers Month events and activities in
November and throughout the year.
The kit contains a variety of resources for you including several
fact sheets, a poster, and print ads. You may download the materials
from the enclosed CD or from www.aoa.gov and adapt them to meet
your local needs. We hope that you will find these items useful
and look forward to continuing to work with you in the future.
Sincerely,
Josefina G. Carbonell
Assistant Secretary for Aging
