Criteria Pollutants

TribalAIR Banner

Criteria Pollutants-are the six major pollutants (CO, Pb, NO2, O3, PM, SO2) that EPA has set standards for. EPA has two kinds of trends, Air Concentration- which is based on actual measurments of pollutants in the outside air at selected monitoringsites throughout the country. Also, Emissions-are based on engineering estimates of total tons of pollutants released into the air each year. Some effects of the criteria pollutants can be numerous on humans like increased respiratory symptoms, hospitalization from heart and lung disease, and premature death.
