Number of Tribes Located in Region 2:  7(all in NY)
 
 
Number of Tribes in Nonattainment Areas:
All 7 are in the Ozone Transport Region.
 
 
Priority Issues for Tribes in Region 2:
Continue to assist the Tribes in increasing their capacity to address air quality concerns, including ambient air monitoring technical assistance, source assessments, and training. Impacts of off-reservation sources.
 
 
Major Sources of Pollution in Region 2 Indian Country:
The Region has 1 source that meets the Title V threshold. The source is a wood manufacturing facility (Philadelphia Furniture in the City of Salamanca).
 
 
Minor Sources of Pollution in Region 2 Indian Country:  
35 -40 point sources. The types of businesses include: gas stations; fuel storage facilities; small industrial boilers; space heating (gas, wood, propane); silk screening factory (textile) with drying oven; lumber; luminite; printcutters operations; medical waste incinerator; painting; dry cleaning; and sandblasting shop.
 
 
Tribal Governments or Organizations Currently Receiving Air Grants:2
(St. Regis Mohawk Tribe and Seneca Nation of Indians).
 
 
Programs Implemented by Tribes in Indian Country:
Currently, no Region 2 Tribes have EPA-approved CAA programs or delegations. One Tribe, St. Regis Mohawk Tribe, has a tribal air program that is in the process of developing an open burning and fluoride regulation and issuing minor source permits. Most are building the foundations for air quality through staff training, community education, emission inventory development, and source investigations.
 
 
Programs Implemented by Region 2 in Indian Country:
Headquarters Acid Rain Division will be including the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe in the National Acid Deposition Monitoring Network by providing an Acid Deposition monitor. The Tribe will receive full funding for maintenance and analysis for several years from the Acid Rain Division. The Region is supporting Headquarters activities with funding for personnel for the monitoring. The Region is also implementing Part 71 on the one major source.
