About New Electronic Titles
A GPO Access Finding Aid

New Electronic Titles (NET) is a finding aid used to locate, by month, online Federal Government publications that were acquired for the Federal Depository Library Program Electronic Collection (FDLP/EC). When the button for a month is "clicked" a search of the Catalog of United States Government Publications (CGP) is initiated. Search results include full bibliographic records for online publications with hyperlinks to the complete publication.

Evolution of NET
NET in its current form began in January 2002 and replaced weekly "accessions lists" of brief records for online Government publications that had not yet been cataloged. The weekly lists are still accessible from the NET Archive. For the most part, the lists contained titles that were not distributed to Federal Depository Libraries in print, microfiche or any other tangible format.

The new and enhanced NET provides more complete bibliographic information about publications. Additionally, having the URL in the record is not contingent upon the format distributed to depository libraries, therefore broader access to cataloged online titles is available.

Browse Electronic Titles (BET) was the forerunner of NET and first appeared as a Pathway Service in 1995/96. New titles were added to BET on an irregular basis and formed one integrated list arranged by Federal agency author. The NET weekly lists, true title lists, first appeared in July 2000, replacing BET.

As the transition to a more electronic Federal Depository Library Program continued and electronic titles became the norm rather than the exception, the listing format was no longer feasible. It was time to provide access to online titles, regardless of distribution status. Electronic titles can be found chronologically in NET or they are accessible by using the various search options of the CGP.
