Our Privacy Statement
What is Fax-on-Demand?

Fax-on-demand is an electronic self-service document delivery system that is accessed over telephone lines. You can order documents from NARA 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Documents are sent to you via the fax machine you choose.

How do I get a document from Fax-on-Demand?
  1. Call the system from any telephone and follow the voice-activated instructions carefully. The voice-activated instructions will prompt you to enter the following information on your telephone keypad:

    1. Enter the document number (image) you wish to receive.
    2. After the voice on the system repeats the document number that you entered, press 1 to receive the document, or 0 to skip it.
    3. Press 0 to receive your information, or 1 to request an additional document number (image).
    4. When you have entered the document numbers for all the documents that you wish to receive:

      1. Enter the area code and the telephone number of the fax machine to which your information is to be sent.
      2. After the voice on the system repeats your fax machine number, and you are sure it is correct, press 1. Press 0 if there was an error.
      3. If you need to identify your document enter a routing or telephone number extension. If you do not need to have this identification, skip it by pressing the pound sign (#). If the routing information is correct, press 1. Press 0 if there was an error and to reenter the correct routing information.

  2. Your document(s) will be faxed after you hear this voice-activated instruction: "The requested information is on the way. Thank you for calling faxfacts."
Please note: If you are calling from your fax machine telephone line, you will need to hang up after this voice-activated instruction in order to receive your document(s).
What documents are available from Fax-on-Demand?

Is there a charge for using Fax-on-Demand?

There is no charge for this service except for any long distance charges you may incur for your phone call.

What should I do if I am unable to use the Fax-on-Demand system?

If you are unable to receive the document that you need via the fax-on-demand system:

  • Email your request to Contact NARA

  • Some documents are available on NARA's Web site. Please use NARA's Web Site Search Engine to find them by title. Note: Web and Fax-on-Demand versions may vary.

  • E-mail the Fax-on-Demand Administrator for help: faxondemand@nara.gov *

May I ask the Fax-on-Demand Administrator to fax or email documents to me?

No. Please do not ask the Fax-on-Demand Administrator to fax or e-mail documents to you. Instead use one of these alternatives. Fax-on-Demand is a self-service fax retrieval system. The Administrator is not able to fax documents from the system. Fax-on-Demand documents are not available as email documents.
May I fax requests to Fax-on-Demand?

No. Please do not fax documents to the Fax-on-Demand phone number. The system is used only for sending faxes to callers.
