Adrienne Smith works in the Office on Women's Health (OWH), U.S. Department
of Health and Human Services, as a Public Health Advisor, in the Division of Policy and
Program Development. In that capacity, she coordinates the minority women's health
programs/activities, and facilitates OWH's Minority Women's Health Panel of Experts. She
has an academic and professional background in biology and nutritional science, with
special interests in minority and women's health. She received a Bachelor of Science
degree from Norfolk State University in Biology Pre-Med, and a Master of Science degree
from Hampton University in Nutritional Science.
She has worked as a public health nutritionist with the
Virginia Department of Health, focusing on breast-feeding promotion and prenatal nutrition
among minority and underserved women. Additionally, she worked with the District of
Columbia Department of Health, in the State Center for Health Statistics, assisting with
the development the District's morbidity and mortality reports. She obtained a Doctor of
Philosophy degree in Women's Health from the Department of Public and Community Health, at
the University of Maryland, College Park, and is a Certified Health Education Specialist
(CHES).
