Dental Allograft Program

Dental Products

The American Red Cross offers a full line of dental products. Since 1988, we have been serving dental professionals with staff dedicated to the specific needs of your specialty.

Our bone powders range in particle size from 100-300 microns to 500-1000 microns, and we offer vial volumes of 0.25cc to 5.0cc. In addition to our complete line of demineralized and mineralized bone powders, we offer Grafton® Demineralized Bone Matrix (DBM) dental products.

Grafton® DBM is demineralized human bone that has been processed into three forms: Putty, Flex and Gel. All three provide exceptional handling in the tight surgical sites of the oral cavity. Grafton® DBM can be easily packed, wrapped, laid, cut and twisted into highly customizable shapes and forms to suit virtually any bone-grafting procedure.

Soft tissue, mandibles and other tissue available upon request.

Grafton® DBM Putty
Packaged in jars, is very malleable and can be used to fill bone voids of various sizes and shapes:

  • Use during sinus lift to ensure bony implant support
  • Pack into large cavities caused by the excision of bone lesions
  • Place in extraction sockets to prevent residual defects and to build implant-supporting bone.

Grafton® DBM Gel
Delivered by syringe, can be directed into hard-to-reach graft sites.

Grafton® DBM Flex
Contained in peel-open packages, can be applied whole or easily customized into strips and small pieces to:

  • Use in onlay grafting ridge augmentation procedures to build ridge width.
  • Place over or pack into defects where bone formation is needed.
  • Bridge gaps between bones or bone projections for alveolar reconstruction.

Tissue Preparation
All tissue allografts are for single-patient, single-use only, due to the risk of contamination once the package has been opened and because of the need for accurate recipient tracking. Please refer to the product insert that accompanies all tissue orders for complete instructions.

Safety
Dental tissue is screened in accordance with screening procedures and safety measures followed on all Red Cross tissue.

About Our Processing
All of our bone powders are freeze-dried. The allografts are preserved by first freezing at ultra-low temperatures and drying in a controlled process under high vacuum. All packages are verified for vacuum and integrity prior to shipping. Freeze-dried tissue can be reconstituted in a sterile solution prior to use.

The Benefits of Using Red Cross Allograft Bone
Our allograft tissue offers several important benefits for patients. Unlike synthetic bone, which only offers patients the benefit of osteoconduction, all of our demineralized bone products are osteoconductive and osteoinductive. And, when using allograft, there is no need to perform the second site surgery that is often required when using autograft bone. This second surgery frequently results in a longer, more painful recovery for patients than the primary surgery.
