Living DonationIn addition to deceased donor transplants, patients may also receive organs from living donors. Living donation offers an alternative for individuals awaiting transplantation from a deceased donor and increases the existing organ supply. To learn more, choose an option below: 2004 US Kidney Transplants by Donor TypeTo date*, there have been 311,422 transplants for all organs in the United States. Approximately 20% of these are living donation. In 2003, however, approximately 43% of kidney transplants came from living donors. *Based on current OPTN data as reported on April 6, 2004 for the time period from January 1, 1988 to January 31, 2004.
